vegetables we grew

about us

Main Street Homestead

Main street homestead really began way back in 2017 when my husband and I decided to have a garden. We weren't even married yet! We started with a small spot in our yard and planted tomatoes, jalapenos, cabbage, okra, and CORN - downtown!

Our little garden grew some amazing vegetables and we had a blast with it for a couple years, but life would soon get in the way. Fast forward to 2025 and we are back at it going bigger and better!

Peppers are my favorite!

I am obsessed with bell peppers

and I love growing them almost as much as eating them. Over the years I have grown a few different types of peppers such as jalapenos, bells, habaneros and Marconi peppers. This year I am skipping the hot peppers, but I am adding PURPLE bell peppers!

This year I will also be saving the seeds from the peppers I grow in an effort to save money and possibly build another income source!

Expansion

Chickens!

Our biggest addition so far is chickens. We aren't allowed roosters in the city limits, so we are limited to hens. We should start having eggs in the next few weeks. It is all very exciting so far, so be sure to check out our progress with our chickens!

I will also be experimenting with different ways to use eggs as well as determining how much of an income source it will be.

Further expansion

Other expansion projects that are in the works but not completed yet are raised garden beds and rainwater catchment! Once these are up and running, my experiences - and mistakes - will be added to the blog.
